Burrowing Owl

This curious Burrowing Owl was created on scratchboard with some acrylic highlights for the eyes and beak.

The scratchboard is an inked hardboard surface produced by Ampersand© which is my favorite company for much of my artwork surfaces.

"Scratchbord" is a 1/8th inch thick piece of hardboard with a velvety black ink layer.  The piece is coated with acrylic sealer for protection and enhancement.  Framing is simple and economically friendly, since you can merely remove the glass from a store bought frame and insert the artwork.  You do not need to have glass over this artwork and it is easy to clean using a dust rag (no chemicals or polishers).
